Irkutsk - Poarta Baikalului, Parisul Siberiei, unul dintre orasele principale ale Siberiei, asezat pe locul unde in sec. 17 fusese construita o cetate – asezamant de iarna pentru comertul cu aur, dar si pentru schimburie comerciale intre China si Rusia. A devenit apoi un centru al intelectualitatii in exil in vremea tarului Nicolae I. /

Irkutsk - The gates of Baikal, the Paris of Siberia, one of the main cities of Siberia, situated on a former 17th century citadel – winter centre for the trade of gold and commercial exchanges between China and Russia. It became later the headquarters of exiled intellectuals during the reign of Nicholas the 1st.
